BOOKS READ IN MAY

In another race to the finish I made my goal of reading 12 books. I thought my vacation to Michigan might interfere with my reading time but in fact, I visited my favorite Michigan Indie Bookstore, Literati, in Ann Arbor. Of course I bought books and two of them were short and wonderful. While my sister went to work, planted tomatoes, and acted as consummate host, I got to read!

Stats: 12 books read. 11 fiction. 5 written by women. 4 for My Big Fat Reading Project. 3 historical fiction. 1 speculative. 1 classic. 1 translated. 2 thrillers. 1 nonfiction.
Favorite books: So Lucky, How to Be Both, Remarkable Creatures.
Not a least favorite in the bunch.

The thing I did not keep up with is writing my reviews and posting them on the blog. I am 9 books behind on posting and seven on writing reviews. Stay tuned for lots of posts!

How was your May reading? What were your favorite books read?

  1. That was a good month of reading! I'm very behind with my reviews too and need to start catching up in June. I enjoyed Remarkable Creatures - I'll look forward to your thoughts on it.

    1. I had no idea it would be so good. It was The Essex Serpent that led me to it because I wanted to know more about Mary Anning.
When I fall behind on reviews, I tell myself I will write one a day, but it feels so like a chore that I end up taking days off-:) Sure is more fun to read!

  4. Great haul, as usual! ;-) I enjoyed Remarkable Creatures a great deal. I look forward to the remaining reviews. I'm curious about How to be Both and this translation of The Odyssey.

    1. Thank you. Remarkable Creatures seems to be a big favorite of many. The other two you mentioned were both great though in different ways. I have finally accomplished an old, old goal to read both The Iliad and The Odyssey, thanks to that translation.

  6. 12 is your lucky number. Reading on airplanes is always a good place for me -- so I guess your trip to Michigan didn't stop you any. June will be a good month too by the looks of it. Enjoy!

    1. I like that. When I was a kid I always thought 2 was my lucky number, but now I am all grown up and I get a bigger number! Yes, June is full of good books old and new for me to read.

  7. Judy, well done on meeting your reading goal again in May. I am really pleased with my reading too, as I upped my numbers from the previous few months. I am also behind on my reviews, so hopefully we can both catch up soon. Happy June reading :-)

    1. Thank you Jessica! Funny how that works: the more we read the more we have to review. Happy June reading to you as well.
