BOOKS READ IN MAY

It seemed we had the coldest, rainiest, most cloudy May ever. The flowers bloomed, the grasses remained green, the peacocks hatched and I, spared from yard duty, got lots of reading done.

Stats: 13 books read. 12 fiction. 7 written by women. 5 for My Big Fat Reading Project. 1 translated. 1 nonfiction. 3 spy thrillers. 1 mystery. 1 speculative.

Places I went: France, Iran, Great Britain, USA states of Oregon, California, Massachusetts and Mississippi.

Authors new to me: Djavadi Negar, Charles McCarry, Elizabeth McCracken.

Favorites were Disoriental, Bowlaway, Daisy Jones & The Six. I had no least favorite because all the books I read were good.

Have you read any of these? As always, I have lots of reviews to post but they will come. Did you have a favorite book among the books you read in May?

  1. Once again your list of books read is impressive. I have been a bit bogged down this month. I am still reading The Magic Mountain. It is incredibly slow going for various reasons. With that, I am enjoying it. I also read Nicholas Nickleby which was also very long. Hopefully I will get more read in June.

    1. One's reading rate definitely takes a hit from long books, especially the slow going kind. I might have already told you this, but I tried The Magic Mountain once and knew I did not have what it takes to get through it. It sure is not Harry Potter! LOL

  2. Always LOVED John Wynham novels. VERY British SF. I remember racing through the original Bond books too. SO different from the movies.

    1. I am loving those Wyndham novels too! The Bond books are almost nothing like the movies though I guess Fleming didn't care but was happy to take the money. I have only read two so far and am then watching the movies again to compare.

    1. I found it a highly entertaining read. It is for those of us who have loved bands and pop/rock music.

  4. That's another great month of reading for you, especially as you thought all of those books were good! I love John Wyndham's books and really enjoyed The Midwich Cuckoos, but I haven't read any of your other May reads.

    1. Yes, it was good. John Wyndham and I are getting along just fine! I think you would like the Joan Aiken. Her books for adults are as good as the ones for kids.

    1. Well thanks, Dorothy. It is weren't for those short, snappy spy books I would not have hit 13 books read. But the variety is fun!

  9. You always amaze me in terms of how many books you read per month!!

Daisy and the Six is on my ever growing reading wishlist. I missed an opportunity to hear the author speak and sign copies of her novel in March at a local indie bookstore.

    2. I wonder if she is or has signed books near you then??

What did you think of Casino Royale? I read it in 2015 and found James Bond to be very different from the movie version!

    3. I think she was at Skylight Books but I didn't go. I liked Casino Royale a lot. I could see in my mind some of the scenes from the later version of the movie but the book is, as you say, very different.

  10. Isn't it a lovely feeling when all the books you read in a given time are great?! I have really lucked out lately in that only a very few of my library treasures have been DNFs lately. Sisters in Law is on my TBR. I dress as #NotoriousRBG every year for Halloween.

  11. Another great month for you Judy! I read Daisy & listened to the audio of it too. I thought she did a good job with it. I have a library copy of Sisters in Law but also stacks all around me, sigh.

    1. More reading time is always my priority, but now the weather is sunny and warm and I am spending more time working in my yard. We'll see what happens!
