FEBRUARY READING GROUP UPDATE

February is another busy reading group month for me. Even though I have read three of the books before I decided to reread both The Night Circus and Song of Solomon. In fact, I am so happy with that decision that I might also reread An American Marriage.

  2. I have read a few of your authors, Peony in Love by Lisa See, Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehesi Coates and quite a few by Toni Morrison who I really like.

    Have fun with your readings.

  3. I've read both The Night Circus and An American Marriage. I enjoyed both novels.

I have The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See in my 'tbr' stack.

  5. I have only tried The Night Circus, in audio. But I thought the narrator's voice sounded way too old for the characters, so I ended up DNFing it.
I hope you enjoy all these

    1. Well with an inappropriate narrator I don't blame you. It is really a lovely story though.

  6. The Night Circus cover is beautiful! I didn't know Coates wrote fiction, is this his first? I have read his non-fiction.

  8. Like you, I don't often reread books, but at times I think it can be really good to return to a favorite from long ago. You can pick up on things you didn't the first time around. Good for you to re-finish The Night Circus & Song of Solomon .... these are worthy re-reads!

    1. They were definitely worthy re-reads. Also as a writer I can pay more attention to how the author did what she did.

  9. I read The Night Circus and The Water Dancer. I loved the first, liked the latter a great deal, though I found it slow going.

    1. Hi Carmen! It is always lovely to have a visit from you. I just started The Water Dancer last night. In 27 pages I have learned that it is a book that makes me take my time.

  10. It's been ages since I read a Lisa See book. I've loved those few I read in the past. I need to revisit her books. Loved Night Circus and all the other books are on my list to read.

    1. In one of my reading groups we have many Lisa See fans, so we always read her latest when she has a new one. I like her too!

    1. My opinion on The Night Circus is 5 stars, thumbs totally up. My review after the first reading is here: https://keepthewisdom.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-night-circus.html. Then I read it again and found it even more magical and true.
