Good evening at the end of a lovely Mother's Day. My three Zoom reading groups will meet this month. Two of the books are rereads for me but I am happy to reread them. I have already finished Little Women. Today I started The House of the Spirits. I am wild with excitement to read Louise Erdrich's latest, The Nightwatchman.

Are any of your reading groups going in some form or other? If yes, what will you discuss in May? Have you read or discussed any of these?
i confess i've never read any L.M. Alcott... her brother was a friend of Thoreau and Emerson and some of those persons; i think he ran a school of some sort in Boston... could be wrong about the details, tho...
ReplyDeleteMs Alcott might not be your cup of tea, but yes she was in with those Transcendentalists.
DeleteI've downloaded some classics from Amazon. I've been meaning to read them for a while never got around to doing so. Now seems a good time.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a good time for classics!
DeleteSounds like a fun and diverse selection of books to read this month for your book groups. Glad your book groups are still going on with the use of Zoom.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely Mother's Day.
Mother's Day was fine. I would be bereft if I could not be with my reading friends.
DeleteThe 150th anniversary nice version! The new movie of it was quite good too. I'm babysitting The Night Watchman from the Library during the pandemic .... as it closed before it was due etc. There it sits on the chair pile ... but I haven't read it yet. 2 months have gone by since the library has closed ... but the books are safe & sound / lots of books to read
ReplyDeleteI know! That is an old book. I loved the new movie and kept seeing those characters' faces as I read. I too have been slowly working through my library books in the past two months; only two left now. I wonder about the library scene and what it will become.
DeleteThat looks like a good selection of books this month. I've read two of Isabel Allende's recent books and didn't really enjoy either of them, but I would still like to try The House of the Spirits one day.
ReplyDeleteSince that is her first novel, it sets the stage for all she has written since, though of course there have been changes over the decades. She has a unique take on life and love!
DeleteI've read Little Women and The House of the Spirits. Both fabulous reads.
ReplyDeleteMy present reads for my book clubs (yes, I joined a second one, in Esperanto, LOL) are:
Tolstoy, Aleksey Konstantinovich "Prince Serebrenni" (also known as The Silver Knight) (Князь Серебряный/Knjaz' Sserebrjanyi) - 1882
Christie, Agatha "And then there were none" - 1939
The Agatha Christie is a filler since we can't get to the libraries, so we chose something that is avaible online.
Great picks for your groups! I am glad you found a new one.
DeleteI'll be interested in your thoughts on The Night Watchman. I found it engrossing.
ReplyDeleteOK, Dorothy. I will be sure to post a review of it.
DeleteYou can never go wrong with Little Women, that's a good one!
ReplyDeleteI know! I finished it the night before Mother's Day. So appropriate.
DeleteI can't even count the number of copies of Little Women I own. It is one of my all-time favorite books. And Allende, superb. The House of the Spirits is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteIt was special reading both those books again after all this time!
DeleteI think I am going to have to make room for both, maybe this summer...which is rapidly approaching. I have a lot to accomplish this summer, because I have a feeling that come fall, things will be hectic and crazy. I seriously am doubting that we will begin the school year in physical classrooms.
