BOOKS READ IN DECEMBER

Remember December? It ended only 8 days ago. Sorry I have been missing for a few days but we all have our reasons. So, anticlimactic as it is, but for the record, here are the books I read in that far away month.

Stats: 10 books read. 10 fiction. 5 written by women. 1 for My Big Fat Reading Project. 1 speculative.

Places I went: Mexico, United States, Spain, Great Britain, Africa.

Authors new to me: Joseph Di Prisco, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Kevin Barry, Nick Flynn, Amy Shearn, Alex Branson.

Favorites: Night Boat To Tangier, Unseen City, Wild Seed.

I am a bit more caught up on reviews than usual. All but the last four of these have been posted.

Have you read any of these books? What are you reading now that is getting you through?

  1. Glad to see you here in 2021, Judy! Looks like you read some pretty good books in December. My eyes keep going to Mexican Gothic. I've read your review, and hope to throw it somewhere on my TBR this year :)

    1. I did. I am kind of doing a month of thrillers here in January.

  3. Judy, I tried Night Boat to Tangier this week but stopped at chapter 4. Even though it was a rather short book, it was just not for me.

    1. Well, I am glad you tried. Not every book is for everyone, right?

  4. Haven't read any of those - but that's ONE reason I come here... new ideas! Presently my reading is, as always, all over the place. Just about to finish reading a classic US History.

    1. Well, that's good. Also why I come to your blog. My husband just finished the first Tom Wood thriller, The Killer. I learned about him from you. He loved it and I will read it soon. We are going to read the entire series.

  6. Your books look fantastic, as always. Oh, if only I had all the time to read my TBR pile AND all the books you review.

    Have a good weekend.

  7. December seems a lifetime ago now. I can barely even remember it. Congratulations on getting almost caught up with your reviews. At the rate at which you read books, that is quite an accomplishment.

    1. Same here. Then again, by February, I hope January seems long ago. I did get caught up on reviews but the minute I slacked off the pile grew again!

  8. Not much reading for me last month, but my tbr list sure grew with all the year-end lists. I added Unseen City after reading your review. Thanks.

    1. No! No! How did I ever get into this review business. It is mostly fun though. Especially when you have friends who read the books you recommend!

  10. I need to read more Octavia Butler. I've only read her Kindred and loved it and all her other books are on my wishlist. One day soon. And I wanted to read Mexican Gothic but I passed on it last month because I wasn't sure. Maybe I'll get back on the wait list.

    1. I hope to read the entire Seed to Harvest series this year. Wild Seed is the first in that series.

  11. I can't even remember December at this point .... it's just a blur. Has it really only been less than 2 weeks? -- it feels like I've aged (also b/c my Dad got covid in Calif. around Christmas ... but we think he's going to be all right ... but it's been a troubling time ). You kept to the books which was the right thing to do ... I like the looks of many of these.

    1. Susan, so sorry to hear about your dad and pray for his recovery. Such a troubling time which only seems to be getting worse right up to the minute we hope it will get better.

  12. The only one of these I've read is Wild Seed, which I read and enjoyed a few years ago. Getting through...the last book that helped was Philip Pullman's The Secret Commonwealth which I was reading the first few days of 2021.
