I am a bit late posting this but since none of my groups have met yet this month, here goes. Only three meetings. One is on Martin Luther King Day, another is on Inauguration Day and the last is after all the excitement and distraught horrible stuff is hopefully in the past. What a January we are having.
One Book At A Time:
Carol's Group:
Bookie Babes:
I have not read any of the books in this series and it is #9, but I look forward to a wintry read featuring Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope because I have heard good things about the series.
We are all still meeting on Zoom. Are any of your reading groups meeting this month? If so, what will you be discussing? Have you read any of these books?
Here is hoping February will see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Becoming is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is!!
DeleteI just love her so much. <3
DeleteI couldn't agree mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore. LOL
DeleteI loved the audio of Becoming and am looking forward to Migrations as well. Great discussion books too.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear this, Diane.
DeleteLOL... Sarah, how do you actually feel about that book?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDeleteGlad you are all having fun over here!
DeleteLOL! it was amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I love Michelle Obama, and we are birthday buddies! (Which, ironically, is TODAY!)
DeleteHappy Birthday, Sarah!!
DeleteHappy Birthday from me, too. 🎂
DeleteYes, Migrations is amazing, so glad you enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteI am only half way and can't put it down.
DeleteLooks like you have a reread with one of your book clubs.
ReplyDeleteI could reread, but I remember the book so well, I am just going to enjoy the discussion.
DeleteIt is cool that your things like reading group a can still meet on Zoom.
ReplyDeleteThe Michelle Obama book seems like a great choice for a reading group.
as
Starting a series on the ninth book would drive me a little crazy :)
It is cool to still be able to meet on Zoom, though I look forward to meeting in person again.
DeleteStarting a series on the ninth book will for sure drive me a little crazy, but if I like it I can always go back to the beginning. In fact, that is how I found Sara Paretsky. A reading group read her 6th book and it was great, so I went back and have not given up since.
If the author is good enough dropping in @ #9 won't make any difference to your enjoyment. The Tom Wood book I recommended to you (although I remember saying you should start @ #1) was the 7th in a series and was great. Plus its prompted me to go back to #1. I guess it's like meeting someone amazing as an adult and slowly learning about the rest of their life by getting to know them better!
DeleteGood analogy, CK!
DeleteThere is little that I dislike more than Zoom meetings and I take part only in the ones I absolutely cannot avoid.
ReplyDeleteI would be that Zoom would not be good for you David, with your love of outdoors and space. The thing is, without Zoom I would not have seen any of my best people, my reading group people for many months.
DeleteHey Judy: loved Becoming and Migrations : glad you are liking it too. My old book group has revived & we are meeting on Zoom in February to chat about Eowyn Ivey's book To the Bright Edge of the World which I picked. I hope it's good. There's a couple author Zoom events too .... of Julia Alvarez and Lisa See speaking/reading ... if you're interested let me know. Enjoy your groups!
ReplyDeleteI just read your post. Migrations is blowing my mind. I loved To The Bright Edge of the World. It will make for a good discussion with your group. I am happy for you that your group revived.
DeleteThe Vera Stanhope book can stand alone. I don't think you'll miss much by reading it out of order, although I have certainly enjoyed reading all nine in order. I look forward to your review of this one and also your review of Migrations. I agree it is an astounding book.
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed good to know about the Vera Stanhope book. I hope I can say something intelligent about Migrations. I may have to settle down a bit so I don't just gush!
DeleteI loved "Becoming" and am waiting for "The Promised Land". What a wonderful family!
ReplyDeleteThe Obamas sure are good writers too!
DeleteThey are smart and they care for others, so no wonder they can write so well.
DeleteI have this really weird thing where I can't just read any book in a series but I HAVE to read the other books first.. I hope you'll enjoy that wintry book!
ReplyDeleteNormally I do too, but I can't read 9 books by the same author in a month! For my beloved Bookie Babes I will suffer through, though I have been assured by Dorothy that I will survive!!
DeleteBecoming has been on my TBR since I first heard of it. I hope to get around to it soon. Also, I'm so excited for the 20th! My partner and I are throwing a little party just for ourselves lo.
ReplyDeleteI think you will really enjoy Beloved. It reads smoothly and quickly despite its length. Happy Inauguration Day!!
DeleteI absolutely loved "Beloved". It was my first Toni Morrison book but not my last.
DeleteEnjoy.
I've been seeing Migrations around and it has received a lot of good reviews. I'll need to add it to my list - I don't naturally gravitate towards books about flora or fauna but I'm always up for trying something amazing. Hope you have fun with your book club meetings!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great adventure story with a broken female heroine who seeks to help with climate change. A great combination, I found.
DeleteI’ve got the audio of Becoming, one day I’ll get to it! Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI've heard the audio is read by her and is wonderful. You will learn a lot about what it is like to be the First Lady and raise daughters in the White House, plus more.
ReplyDeleteI like the three recommendations. I have the Michele Obama's book in my tbr list but I can't find it in the library.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Victoria! I hope that book turns up in your library soon.
