Quite a nice and varied lineup in my groups this month.

I have finished reading The Ten Thousand Doors and loved it. Currently struggling through A Passage to India. I have already read and discussed Where the Crawdads Sing for another group but it's always good to discuss a book I thought was great.
Have you read and/or discussed any of these?
A Passage to India is one of my all time favorite books. A lot of people talk about the colonialism angle, which was a major positive aspect of the book. However, I found the metaphysical musings particularly appealing. Sorry to hear that it is a bit of a struggle. I am thinking that there were times in my life where the book might not have been right for me. Either way, I would love to know what you think about it once you are finished.
ReplyDeleteThat is encouraging. I am into part 2 which has a bit more action and just last night I began to enjoy his metaphysical musings. Don't worry, you will hear all about it!
DeleteI'm glad you loved The Ten Thousand Doors - I have a copy of it but haven't started reading it yet. A Passage to India is on my TBR too, so I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with it.
ReplyDeleteIt will be fun to read each others' reviews of The Ten Thousand Doors! I am hoping Forster will redeem himself for me by the end of the book.
DeleteThe Ten Thousand Doors is one that is so hyped right now! I see it everywhere! I need to see if my library has a copy to see what all the fuss is about!
ReplyDeleteThe fuss is legit!
Deletei read the Forster also and liked it a lot, particularly the parts that i don't know what he was talking about! i guess i should give it another go...
ReplyDeleteI just finished it. Ended up liking a lot myself. I will explain more when I review it, but I see why it has so many fans.
DeleteWhere The Crawdads Sing will probably end up on my "Best of" list this year and E.M. Forster a favorite. Howards End is at the top of my list, but I also loved A Room with a View and liked Where Angels Fear to Tread very much. A Passage to India is my least favorite of his work, and took a little more effort to get through. I'll look forward to your review.
ReplyDeleteYes, Crawdads was a great read for me too. This is my first Forster and I did end up liking it but I am glad to know he has better ones.
DeleteThe Harrow book seems quite new to pick for book club, nice! It came out recently right? I liked Crawdads ... especially when she starts drawing nature etc. I just recall the movie of Passage to India with Judy Davis ... which seemed to make an impression on me. Perhaps you can rent it for your group.
ReplyDeleteIt is so new! Carol's Group likes to pick recent releases and it was a fabulous read. One of those books that came along at a perfect time for me. I checked to see if Netflix had the Passage to India movie but they don't right now. I'll have to look elsewhere.
DeleteA Kind of Freedom and The Ten Thousand Doors of January are new to me. I'll have to check them out.
ReplyDeleteThe Ten Thousand Doors is very new, just released a month ago. I loved it.
DeleteA Kind of Freedom is one of those books I have had for a while but had not gotten to. I convinced the One Book At A Time Group to read it. I think you would like both.
A blogger I follow raved about The Ten Doors..., and now you make me doubly curious. I would still like to read Where the Crawdads Sing, but it isn't a priority. I'm glad that you ended up liking A Passage to India after all. I have it on my TBR Classics list, together with the other three novels mentioned above.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed The Ten Thousand Doors immensely. We had the reading group discussion today and I was alone in my opinions. That is fine. Not everyone likes the same things. My review will be posted next week.
DeleteI haven't read or discussed any of these, but I am hoping to read A Passage to India as part of The Classics Club.
ReplyDeleteA Passage to India challenged me at first but then about halfway through it clicked and I liked it quite a bit.
