Another month on Zoom but what a line-up my groups have, all so in tune with the times. Also instead of wringing our hands, we can celebrate as we discuss the outcome of the election and truly feel that all our reading and study can make us better citizens and agents for positive change. Does anyone else feel you have been holding your breath for 5 years and can now take a deep breath while preparing to face whatever comes next?
One Book At A Time:
Carol's Group:
AMEN Judy! I love that you are reading about RBG - She and John Lewis seem so appropriate at this time.
ReplyDeleteI love reading about her so much!
Deletei'd like to read the first one, but mostly i feel relief that things have happened positively... it's a start, anyhow...
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a start, really a restart of what Barak Obama started. RBG's writings are full of truth and inspiration.
DeleteI love to see that your reading about RBG!
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteTranscendent Kingdom sounds like an amazing book. I've visited Africa 4 times, and I can't wait to go back. I'm interested in any book that has African vibes to it!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to read it!
DeleteI suspect that RBG will be the choice of many reading groups for a while to come. Too bad her replacement turned out to be that legal Barbie nominated by Arch Villain Trump. The time is long past for time limits on Supreme Court appointments.
ReplyDeleteShe certainly changed many issues for the better. Her writings are like a blueprint.
DeleteHow I wish RBG, John Lewis, and John McCain could be alive now, and see what happened yesterday - such great relief!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say that I haven't read any books by or about RBG but I do want to change that. Looks like you have some excellent choices coming up with your group!
Yes, if only they could. I have seen the documentary about RBG, which is excellent. Reading her words is an experience I am privileged to have.
DeleteYou have a great line-up of books & discussions ahead. Go RBG! I started the Gyasi book but then before I could finish it -- the book was due at the library -- gulp. I plan to pick up again at another time. Sometimes reading is also about timing, ha. And yes, I feel elated since the election was called ... it's like a get-out prison feeling, ha. Like the weight of the world has been lifted!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the Gyasi book. Elation and a weight off are what so many of us feel. Today I realize we still have another wait ahead of us but at least it is not filled with dread.
DeleteI loved the Gyasi and O'Farrell books and will be waiting impatiently for your thoughts on them.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that! I anticipate I will love them both.
DeleteI have both books about RBG on my TBR but I have not been able to bring myself to read them yet. I'm still mourning, I feel like. I hope she is proud of us, and knows we will carry on and do the work she starts.
ReplyDeleteI am sure she is proud of us! She paved a way and we walked it.
DeleteI think so too. We just can't stop here, and need to keep pushing on because there is so much to do. But...WE HAVE A FEMALE VICE PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteSounds like some great reads. RBG is such a hero. I must read that but right now I'm too upset about American politcs. Don't get me wrong, I love the outcome of the elections, that's what I really wished for you but the internet is so full of hatred from the other side.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back to the books, great selection, as always.
I get what you say. We can't dissolve the hatred with an election but at least we won't have a leader who keeps fanning it. RBG, among other things, is the voice of reason.
DeleteI have hope for all of us.
