I chose this image today because I could not find the one I usually use and because I am expecting a bit of excitement/disagreement this month. Each book has something I predict will cause some rowdy discussions. If you have read any of these, you may write about what you think might happen in the comments.

If you are in a reading group, what are you discussing in April? Have you ever discussed one of these in a group?
I have read Bluest Eye long ago but haven't discussed it in a group. It's pretty bleak as I recall. I have read about 4 of Morrison's novels but I need to read Sula sometime. So far, maybe Beloved might be my favorite but that could change. Enjoy your groups!
ReplyDeleteI too read The Bluest Eye, long ago. I am curious to read it again. I have read all of Morrison's novels over the years and liked them all, even the ones the critics didn't get!
DeleteGreat variety; I've read all but Once Upon a River. Hope you will have great discussions.
ReplyDeleteOur group is reading The Immortalists; Chloe Benjamin in April.
I loved The Immortalists! So did every in the reading group I discussed it with. I look forward to your review and reading group report.
DeleteI have never discussed it in a reading group, but As I Lay Dying really challenged me. I think that I read it twice. The second time around I did get more then a little out of it, but it was a tough read.
ReplyDeleteI am reading it now, Brian. I'm about one fourth in and just a few hours ago I thought it would be good to read twice. I still am not sure who is who.
DeleteIf I had to pick my favorite book that I have ever read, As I Lay Dying would be a top contender. I admired the subtle, nuanced way that Faulkner put the story together with not a word out of place, I loved the story itself, and, in the end, I came to empathize with the characters. Yes, I think it might just be my all-time favorite.
ReplyDeleteThat is encouraging! I am about halfway now and it is growing on me.
DeleteThat's quite a range, Judy: from Faulkner to Picoult! I tried reading As I Lay Dying once but didn't make it far. Perhaps I should give it another go?
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Yes, quite a range. I found a character list for As I Lay Dying on Wikipedia. It helped to know who they are all because at the beginning I could not figure that out.
DeletePicoult is an author that I've read before and I enjoyed those two novels by her. So hopefully you like this one!
ReplyDeleteHopefully I will. Most of the members of that reading group love Picoult. Me, not so much, but I always read the books we choose so I will see what I think this time.
DeleteI must look into a couple of these books. Cheers
ReplyDeleteI hope you find one or two you want to read!
DeleteThe Bluest Eye outta provoke quite a discussion among your reading group members!! Curious to learn the out come of what everyone says about it.
ReplyDeleteI will post a recap on the next reading group update. I am hoping that it does.
DeleteUnfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the April meeting for my church's book club, to discuss The Death of the Western Christianity by Patrick Sookhdeo, because I was away on a school residential trip. Although I did finish the book. Our next read is Love Wins by Rob Bell.
ReplyDeleteI missed two reading group meetings last month due to illness. Good that you finished the book. The title of your next book is my most basic belief in life.
DeleteGood luck reading these and enjoy the discussions.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good.
