BOOKS READ IN SEPTEMBER

My reading in September was all over the place. I had a plan but instead I picked up whatever looked good on my shelves. Of course I read the picks for my reading groups and finished both a poetry collection and a book of essays I had been reading for a while. All in all I had a feeling of freedom.

Stats: 13 books read. 10 fiction. 5 by women. 1 historical fiction. 2 thrillers. 2 children's books. 2 nonfiction. 1 translated. 1 poetry.

Countries visited: United States, Lebanon, Italy, Australia, Ireland, Spain.

Authors new to me: Beatrice Schenk De Regniers, Maia Wojciechowska, Natalie Diaz, Langston Hughes.

Favorites: Deacon King Kong, The Just City, Not Without Laughter, High Country
Least favorite: The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby

The new Blogger has forced me to retrieve book cover images in a new way. I cannot seem to control the size of each image which bothers me. Hopefully it won't bother you. I am behind on my reviews, as usual, so if you want to find out more about a given title you will have to go to Goodreads or somewhere else on the web. If you have any tips for me on this matter, please let me know.

Have you read any of these titles? What were your favorite reads in September?

  1. Judy, You had a great September. The titles are mostly unfamiliar to me which I love. My friend read the Daniel Silva one and didn't care for it but, it's not one that I plan on reading.

New Blogger does pose challenges but, I did find an icon to decrease or increase the size of a photo - looks like a picture frame with a couple of smaller boxes in upper left corner of icon.

    1. Thanks, Diane. I will be on the lookout for that icon.

  2. You always read so diversely! That's wonderful, getting so much different views and stories.

    1. You see, I am easily bored. So reading diversely combats that tendency. But yes, I do like to get many different views and stories.

  3. I have not had much trouble with the size of book covers that I post. I have had trouble with positioning them however.

    Interesting list of books.

  5. I do have my 'eye' on the Edward Rutherfurd books. Being of Irish descent I'm most interested in his Dublin sequence but his others from around the world look worth a try too. I have what I call a 'butterfly mind' so its difficult for me to stay on topic for too long. You do get a VERY wide knowledge base that way! [grin]

    1. You would like the Dublin saga I think. Yes, I agree with the butterfly mind approach to reading.

  6. So many books. Wow. I have had a slow reading month, don't know why, there are so many great books to be read.

Anyway, glad you read Bridge of Clay, it's also on my wishlist, as you know.

The Princes of Ireland is called Foundation in Britain. But no matter the tile, any book by Edward Rutherfurd is just great.

I agree with Carrie. Yes, you read very diversely and that's great because then there is always so much to talk about.

    Have a great month.

    1. I don't know how I read so many last month. It was hot outside, it was dangerous outside! I just stayed in and read.

  7. An excellent array of books! I hadn't even heard of that Tom Wolfe book -- what a crazy title, eh? I have not read any of these ... but of these I like the looks of Nevada Barr's book! Yosemite? Oh ya! We have stayed at the Ahwahnee lodge ... my family got all together there on my parents' 50th anniversary years ago .... which was special. So I should read it!

    1. It was not my favorite Tom Wolfe book. I read it for research, really gave the flavor of pop culture in the 1960s. I too have eaten at the Ahwahnee restaurant, have not stayed in the lodge. Yes! You should read it!

  8. Lots of great books! I prefer old blogger where it actually said the size, now you’ve got the plus and minus signs. I have a feeling I’ll be fiddling with the html a lot once my blogger finally decides to change over.

    Have a lovely October!

  11. I cannot seem to control the size of each image which bothers me. Click on the picture, there's an icon on the instruction panel where you can down- or upsize it. At least that's how it works for me.

Other than that, yes, I don't like the new blogger. I always say the internet is created by young people who like to try out as much as they can. They don't think that one day they'll be old and can't follow all that rubbish anymore like they can now. Plus, I never studied computers at university level which is often required in order to understand them. 😉

    1. Well, that's what friends are for. I mention my problem here and everyone gives me help and tips!

    2. We all have similar problems and if one of us finds a solution, we are happy to share. I know you do the same.

  12. With the new blogger, it's been a learning (and in some cases, a relearning) experience. I'm not sure why they attempted a revamp after so many years of not investing anything into Blogger. I wonder if it's being spruced up to either merge with some other site or to be shut down, because that's what Google does often. I hope it's not the latter.

I love your September reads here - I keep meaning to get around to Jo Walton and Marcus Zusak - hopefully I just needed this reminder.

    1. Interesting speculations, Athira. I have some blogger friends on WordPress and I guess they are doing something similar. Maybe Amazon is just going to own everything someday-ha ha.
Glad you love my reads. I loved reading them! Hope you do too.

  13. Another productive month of reading. Yes, the new Blogger is quite a change. I have been able to master the picture size thing. By clicking on the actual picture, one gets options as to the size one wants. But I haven't yet figured out how to schedule posts for the future and that's a bummer.

  15. Looks like you had a fabulous month of reading in September!! I have Deacon King Kong in my 'tbr', so am glad to hear you enjoyed this novel.

I've been 'MIA' for awhile and am slowly playing catch up with my reviews, replying to comments, and reading reviews by other bloggers.
